Access Remote Computers Securely, with Lightning Speed
Famatech has released Remote Administrator (Radmin) v. 2.1, a remote control
Windows program that makes it easy to run other computers from your own computer.
You see the remote computer's screen in a resizable window on your own monitor,
and your keyboard and mouse control the remote computer as if you were sitting
in front of it. Radmin is designed for helpdesk managers, network administrators,
consultants who need to access their clients' computers, and anybody who travels
with a laptop and needs to access their desktop computer.
Radmin has two parts: Radmin's server is installed on each computer that you
need to access remotely. Radmin's viewer is installed on the computer that you'll
be using to control the remote machines.
Because of its unique video hook kernel mode drivers, Radmin is very fast.
On a LAN, using Radmin is like sitting in front of the remote computer. Even
using a dial-up modem, the screen update speed is an acceptable five to ten
updates per second.
Radmin runs as a service under Windows 95/98/Me/NT4/2000, allowing you to log
a user on or off remotely. The program supports multiple simultaneous connections.
The viewing image can be full-screen, scaled to the remote screen's defined
size, or a window of any size that you choose. Radmin supports high-resolution
display modes up to 2048 x 2048 x 32.
It's easy to transfer files between computers using Radmin's Explorer-like
interface. The program's built in file manager lets you automatically resume
interrupted downloads without having to re-download the entire file, saving
you time if your file transfer is interrupted by a dropped phone line or a computer
crash. You can quickly and easily shut down a remote computer without having
to connect in full control mode. For Windows NT4 and 2000 users, Radmin even
provides Telnet access to remote computers.
Radmin supports Windows NT4/2000 user-level security. If this security is switched
off, the program restricts access by password. Radmin's 128-bit encryption protects
all screen images, keystrokes, and mouse movements. Radmin maintains an event
log file, allows remote computers to specify which computers may access them,
and even tests itself so its program code cannot be tampered with.
Radmin works on all Windows 95/98/Me/NT4/2000 computers with TCP/IP installed.
Since TCP/IP is the most popular protocol for communicating between computers,
Radmin is ideal for traveling users who want to use the Internet to access their
desktop through their laptop, as well as network administrators who want to
access computers on their LAN without leaving their desks.
A two-PC Radmin v. 2.1 license costs $35(US), and may be purchased securely
online at http://www.radmin.com/registration.htm. Site and company licenses
are available. You can download a free, fully-functional 30-day trial version
of Radmin from the same Internet address.
