#1
We use Radmin for support of several hundred PCs, but we are not fully comfortable with the available access control mechanisms. We would like to have the following behavior:

- If no one is logged in on the target PC, a Radmin connection is permitted automatically.
- If some one is logged in on the target PC, a Radmin connection is permitted ONLY if permission is granted by the person sitting at the target's console.

Is this possible in version 2.1? If not, is this functionality planned for version 3?

Thanks

Yes.

Run "Settings for Remote Administrator server" from start menu group (Start->Programs->Remote Administrator v2.1->Settings for Remote Administrator server).

Click "Options" button. Check "Ask user permission" checkbox, select "Auto allow after timeout" and set timeout to about 100-200 seconds.

Thanks for your reply.

Your suggestion is what we are currently using. However, it easily allows evesdropping.

Suppose I connect to a target PC, but no one is sitting there to let me in. After the timeout period, I am able to watch the console. Then, the person who is actually logged in on the console returns to their desk (or someone logs in). The only clue they have that I am watching is the different color Radmin icon in the systray- very easy to miss.

You can use any scripting utility to change

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\RAdmin\v2.0\Server\Parameters\AutoAllow]

registry key to "00 00 00 00" when user logs ON and to "01 00 00 00" when user logs OFF.

This should be done on a remote (server) computer.

That's a good suggestion. We'll try that.

Thanks
