Radmin v3 Beta - Remove how to tray icon

Quote
I will not be upgrading the computers in my company until the hide icon option is put back in.

Quote
There is a workaround to this problem. You can use SysTrayX (http://www.xdesksoftware.com/systrayx.html) to hide the icon and any other icon you wish to hide from the systray (and even from the STX menu itself). Then you can password protect STX menu and u r done.

How to remote access from outside to 5 pc in a office, Setup Radmin

Quote
I got 5 pc in office, so i need remote access to the 5 pc during me on-leave or outstation then how should i configure using the Radmin2.2 version.

The possible solution is to configure your router/firewall to forward connections on port 4899 to computer 127.0.0.1, connections on port 4898 to computer 127.0.0.2, connections on port 4897 to computer 127.0.0.3, etc (ports and IP's are only examples). Now you can run Radmin Viewer outside the NATed LAN and connect to the router/firewall using different ports to be forwarded to different Radmin Servers inside the LAN.

Suche Hilfe auf Deutsch für Radmin, Radmin 2.2 IP verbindungsproblem

1) Make sure a password is set under Radmin Server options. Radmin Server 2.2 does not allow using blank passwords.

2) Make sure all routers, proxies, personal and corporate firewalls allow Radmin connections (TCP connections on port 4899 by default).

If Radmin's IP Filter is enabled, ensure the client's IP address is included in the list.

3) Try setting higher maximum transmission unit. You'll need to edit [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services Tcpip\ Parameters\Interfaces\(your_actual_interface)\MTU] registry entry and give it higher value.

Security, Open Ports

How safe it Radmin when I still have to open a port to a PC behind the firewall?
There are no known successful Radmin hacks yet.

Quote

- Smart protection from password guessing. This protection includes such features as password anti-guessing security delays, banning IP addresses with excessive number of password guess attempts, etc.

- Server password protection. Radmin Server 2.2 actively protects its settings, which are stored in the system registry. Only a user with administrator rights can access this registry branch.

- Radmin Server 2.2 starts as a service and doesn't start as an application on Windows NT/2000/XP/2003, which improves security.

Did radmin ever cross over to the linux O/S domain
There's no Radmin version for Linux OS. We are planning to develop a Linux version of Remote Administrator, but now we are extremely busy with beta-testing of Radmin 3.0. The development of Linux version was not started yet.

It's possible to run Radmin 2.x Viewer (but not Server) under Transgaming's WineX (Windows emulator for Linux)

1. download this RPM: ftp://ftp.codeweavers.com/pub/cw-wine/codeweavers-wine-20020904-7.i386.rpm
(for mandrake user: remember to do a printerdrake from the terminal before install , go to expert section and install your printer, it will give you the xmessage dependence that codeweavers needs and that you can't found anywhere else)
2. you must be logged in as root for install (rpm -i codeweavers-wine-20020411-6.i386.rpm)
3. Now you must log out from root and type winesetup with normal user account.
4. Run radmin by doing: "wine Radmin.exe"

Remember WineX has limitations and it can't be launched from as (since WineX setup can't handle root user) so use a normal user to lunch "wine Radmin.exe" command.

The only limitation is that keyboard shortcuts are disabled (for example, F12 can't switch screen modes) and right-click on the top of the screen won't change screen mode.

You should place .txt after file name then it'll work.
Also when you'll get scan results first you should do "Add" or "Add all" and then export to file.

Are there a risk or are Kaspersky and other AV prg. completely wrong?

This doesn't mean that you are at risk. Anti-virus detects that your computer has remote control / access tools installed. Sometimes remote control software is being installed without permission from PC's owner. In such cases this is barely legal installation - it may be used to access this computer for spying its user.

But since you are the one who installed Radmin onto your PC and surely know that Radmin is running on your computer, everything's OK. Just be sure to use Radmin's security feature - Radmin password/NT Security and IP Filter - and no unauthorized person would be able to connect to your computer.

There are two ways to forbid antiviral software deleting Radmin Server:

1. Disable scanning for "potentially unwanted programs" or "riskware" under options of antiviral software.

2. Set antiviral software to ignore "r_server.exe" and "radmin.exe" files.

how to remote my home pc to my office pc

Quote
im using radmin 2.1 in the office and radmin 2.2 at home. is it possible?
Sure.
Quote
can i still connect to it?
Yes.
Quote
how?
As usual. Common advices:

1. Make sure TCP/IP protocol is properly installed on both computers (you can check that by PING command. Run IPCONFIG.EXE to find out current TCP/IP configuration and IP's of both computers).

2. Run Radmin Server on the computer you want to control remotely. This computer will be called "remote computer" or "server", and computer you are connecting from is called "local computer" or "client".

3. People from the remote side must tell you the IP address of the remote computer.

4. Make sure, that both computers are connected to network and you can ping remote computer from local computer (use PING command for that).

5. Run Radmin Viewer on the local computer, click "Connect/Connect to" menu, enter the IP address of the remote computer. If all is configured correctly, you will see remote computer's desktop and be able to operate it by mouse and keyboard! See Radmin documentation for details.

If you can't connect, there are things you must check:

- Make sure that port 4899 is opened on remote computer (you can use any
freeware port scanner for this, for example - Advanced Port Scanner
that can be downloaded for free from www.radmin.com)
- If one remote computer uses modem connection, it will be better to get
permanent IP address for it, or you will need to get it's IP each
time it is connected to your ISP.
- If your remote computer is connected to network via proxy or firewall,
make sure that firewall's configured to allow all connections on port 4899.
- If your remote computer is in LAN, has no real IP, and your local
computer is not in the same LAN: please configure your LAN server with
real IP to forward all connections on port 4899 to remote computer,
and use your LAN's server IP instead of remote computer's IP in
"connect to" dialog.

im using dsl connection at home and my ip changes everytime i restart my pc. so what should i do?
If the IP address is changed dynamically by an ISP or a DHCP server, you can use software to notify you via e-mail (like "keep me posted", DirectUpdate available at http://www.directupdate.net or Remote IP Tracker available at http://www.formyip.com) every time your IP address changes. Alternatively, you could use a service that maps your dynamic IP to a DNS name (for example, http://www.dns2go.com/, http://www.dynu.com or http://www.no-ip.com/). DynDNS.org (http://www.dyndns.org) is a service that assigns alphabetical DNS names to computers that don't have fixed IP addresses.

To test the assigned DNS name, you can PING the remote computer. You could also use Famatech's Advanced Port Scanner to see if port 4899 is open on the remote computer. Advanced Port Scanner can be downloaded for free from http://www.radmin.com/radmin/utility/pscanner.php.

WinXP SP2 enables built-in Internet Connection Firewall without letting you know. Built-in firewall blocks almost all incoming connections. You need to disable built-in firewall or re-configure it to allow incoming Radmin connections.

You can use Radmin even if you have Windows XP's firewall enabled.

1. Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Network Connections.

2. Right-click your network connection icon and select "Properties".

3. Select "Advanced" tab. Click "Settings". Firewall Settings window will appear.

4.1. To disable built-in firewall, Check "Off" and click "OK".

4.2. To change built-in firewall configuration, go to "Exceptions" tab.
Click "Add port".
Enter settings:
Name: Radmin Port
Port number: 4899
Protocol: TCP
Click "OK" button.

Now you should be able to connect to this computer remotely via Radmin.

No, for callback connection someone at the remote side neat the computer with Radmin Server installed on it is needed and he/she should initiate "back" connection to Radmin Viewer.

silent or un-maned installation, silent installation

Remote installation is definitely possible. Radmin.exe (Radmin Viewer) and r_server.exe (Radmin Server) have useful switches, so you can create installation batch files.

Radmin Viewer doesn't need installation. Just copy the radmin.exe and help.hlp file to a folder on the local computer.

Radmin Server does need to be installed. Here is a sample script for Windows, which installs Radmin Server as a system service on the computer. Change the file paths to your values. To execute the script on network computers, use logon scripts in Windows NT networks.

net use z: \\server\d
copy "z:\install\radmin\r_server.exe" "%systemroot%\system32\r_server.exe"
copy "z:\install\radmin\raddrv.dll" "%systemroot%\system32\raddrv.dll"
%systemroot%\system32\r_server.exe /install /silence
regedit.exe /s z:\install\settings.reg
net use z: /delete
%systemroot%\system32\r_server.exe /start

NOTE: Under Windows NT/2000/XP/2003, user executing this script must have administrator rights to install the service.

This script:

1) Maps a disk drive z: to \\server\d
2) Copies Radmin Server files to the Windows system folder.
3) Installs Radmin Server as a system service.
4) Saves server settings to the registry.
5) Delete the z: drive

Radmin Server settings (tray icon options, port, logfile options, IP filter settings, password) are stored in the registry. You can copy these settings from one computer to another:

You need to define these settings on a sample computer. You can do it using "Settings for Remote Administrator server" from the Start menu.

2) Run regedit.exe and export the settings from the Registry to a file such as settings.reg.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Radmin]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Radmin]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Radmin]

3) Save these settings from the file to the registry of the other computer by executing:

regedit.exe /s settings.reg

You can install Radmin through a network management software from other vendors (like ScriptLogic). We can provide you with standard Radmin 2.2 MSI package if you wish, so you can modify it to suit your needs.

Remote deployment tool for Radmin will be developed after the final release of Radmin Server 3.0.
