RAdmin Integration, RAdmin Integration

Does this "api" exists?

No. We do not provide Radmin API or SDK.

However, you can run Radmin Server and Radmin Viewer with command-line switches from a shortcut or another (your own) program. These command-line switches are described in Radmin help files.

Interesting Possiblity...

We are planning to develop Mac version of Remote Administrator, but now we are extremely busy with beta-testing of Radmin 3.0. The development of Mac version was not started yet. However, you can try running Radmin Viewer under Virtual PC or other Windows emulator for Mac. Radmin has 30-day trial period, so you won't need to buy it to test is you would be able to run Radmin under Windows emulator for Mac.

Logs in XML

Radmin Server 3.0 and Radmin Communication Server store their logs in HTML format, hope this suites you.

Hardcode all settings (password, tcp port, hide tray, password to lock settings, etc.) into the install so users can simply click install and we do not have to tell them what to do

Setting some kind of default password is a major security threat. A lot of users will carelessly keep default password, which is the same as setting no password at all and thus letting anyone in.

Moreover, all passwords should be unique, so hardcoded password is a very questionable idea.

There are default settings for TCP port (4899 is used by default) and hide tray icon (shown by default, since showing tray icon is more common practice).

Code this in an .ini file that we can alter as needed

This is already possible with Radmin 2.2. Radmin stores its settings in Windows Registry, so you can import/export settings via .REG file.

and use .msi files to push via group policies

This is possible as well. You can include your custom .REG file to the MSI package.

Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Display->Appearance->Effects and disable all effects on the remote (server) computer. This solves issues with transparent tooltips and windows under WinXP.

Silent Viewer, Is Radmin the right product to me

Quote
I mean that the end-user will not notice that someone is monitoring what he/she does

Please note that Remote Administrator is intended for controlling computer systems remotely and not for hidden activities, such as hacking into another peoples' computers or spying other people.

In most countries spying for your employees by any means is illegal, unless contract between employee and employer states the inverse.

Radmin web viewer

Quote
I want to know that why Radmin do not have web viewer

There's no web interface for Radmin, since it would be great security hole. Releasing web-based user interface would force endless attacks to your Radmin Server from the Web and, most importantly, web traffic encryption is much poorer than internal Radmin encryption, so passwords can be stolen.

That's why you must download Radmin from our site and install it on your computers in order to use Remote Administrator. Anyway, we are constantly thinking about solution, so it may be developed later.

When the current user profile (the one you are logged under on the local machine) is added to Radmin's NT Security Permissions with proper rights on the remote machine, you won't be asked for username and password.

When a download fails, we have tried the restart sequence mentioned above. What we have noted, is the copy takes longer.

Sometimes "delta copy" works incorrectly, so it takes longer than expected to compare pieces of files. This will be fixed in the next version.

Symantec 10.0, Symantec ENgine 10.0 detects radmin as a virus

Symantec added the following articles to their knowledge base:

Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.x detects Remote Administrator (Radmin) as an expanded threat (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/c9b1a c1936fbf63488256e77006521df/0432a26c674d976588256ecf005cd04c ?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam)

Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.0 quarantines or deletes Remote Administrator (Radmin) (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid /2005051215400948?Open&src=ent_gold_nam)

Please refer to those articles. Also, please install the latest updates for your Symantec products.

Well the program launches just fine, but i cant see it in remote admin.

That's not because the application is written using .NET. The reason is non-standard GUI objects used in the application's window.

There is a Hardware Acceleration option in Windows located at "Start->Control Panel->Display Properties->Settings->Advanced->Troubleshooting->Hardware Acceleration", which has the default set at FULL. Try setting it to NONE on the remote (server) computer. This may solve the problem.

Windows XP at A has 2 users: User1 and User2. Is it possible to login from B as User1 and from C as User2 through RAdmin independently but at the same time?

No.

And can I switch from User1 to User2 at server A from computer B?

No.

Or do we need to purchase Windows2000 or something like that, because windows XP doesn't support such option?

You will need Terminal Server and Terminal Clients to achieve such functionality.

Is it (or will it) be possible to give File Transfer access to a specified folder (or groups of folders), rather than the entire workstation?

Unfortunately, it is not possible with Radmin 2.2. As far as I know, Radmin 3.0 will not include such feature either. I agree that this would be a very useful feature. It may be implemented in further versions.

Radmin CC and Radmin address book

Quote
Dont you think it could be usefull ?

Hardly. RCC address book is designed to list available Radmin Communication Servers. In most cases there will be only one or two servers in the list.

Radmin Viewer address book is designed to list all workstations, servers and laptops an administrator may need to connect to in order to control them, troubleshoot problems or provide help.

Even if you could get it to work by changing the service login account, it still would not be very practical or secure to use the log file for billing purposes.

I would totally agree. This is not what logging was designed for. Although there's a way to use Radmin's log file for billing, this task is far beyond of common tasks of an administrator.

Setting Restrictions in RAdmin, How to allow only specified IP-Addresses in RAdmin-Viewer

Bernd Kals!

Please follow the advice from janvdweyer. Even if you restrict the user from adding new connections to Radmin Viewer, the user will still be able to connect using command line. So adding the user in question to Radmin's NT Security Permissions list on these 3 hosts only or (if you cannot use NT Security) telling the user passwords for these 3 hosts only is the best solution.

Of course the RAdmin Server log file is located on the remote PC in your scenario and would have to be 'retrieved' perhaps with another file transfer RAdmin session to all your clients (not very practical). Plus I'm not sure a plain text file on the client's PC is the best place for a log that is used for billing that very same client.

Radmin Server allows you to change the location of the logfile. You can set Radmin Server to store the logfile at the remote host using UNC path or a mapped drive.

Ilia Demenkov
