Topic: «Linux Version, Linux Version in the future?» on forum: Famatech Software Good Wishes

There's no Radmin version for Linux OS. We are planning to develop a Linux version of Remote Administrator, but now we are extremely busy with beta-testing of Radmin 3.0. The development of Linux version was not started yet.

It's possible to run Radmin 2.x Viewer (but not Server) under Transgaming's WineX (Windows emulator for Linux)

1. download this RPM: ftp://ftp.codeweavers.com/pub/cw-wine/codeweavers-wine-20020904-7.i386.rpm
(for mandrake user: remember to do a printerdrake from the terminal before install , go to expert section and install your printer, it will give you the xmessage dependence that codeweavers needs and that you can't found anywhere else)
2. you must be logged in as root for install (rpm -i codeweavers-wine-20020411-6.i386.rpm)
3. Now you must log out from root and type winesetup with normal user account.
4. Run radmin by doing: "wine Radmin.exe"

Remember WineX has a limitations and it can't be launched from as (since WineX setup can't handle root user) so use a normal user to lunch "wine Radmin.exe" command.

The only limitation is that keyboard shortcuts are disabled (for example, F12 can't switch screen modes) and right-click on the top of the screen won't change screen mode.

Web-based viewer may be developed later, when we are sure this is secure and have enough resources to devote them to this task.

I want to know that why Radmin do not have web viewer

There's no web interface for Radmin, since it would be great security hole. Releasing web-based user interface would force endless attacks to your Radmin Server from the Web and, most importantly, web traffic encryption is much poorer than internal Radmin encryption, so passwords can be stolen.

That's why you must download Radmin from our site and install it on your computers in order to use Remote Administrator. Anyway, we are constantly thinking about solution, so it may be developed later.

Ilia Demenkov

Does this "api" exists?

No. We do not provide Radmin API or SDK.

However, you can run Radmin Server and Radmin Viewer with command-line switches from a shortcut or another (your own) program. These command-line switches are described in Radmin help files.

We are planning to develop Mac version of Remote Administrator, but now we are extremely busy with beta-testing of Radmin 3.0. The development of Mac version was not started yet. However, you can try running Radmin Viewer under Virtual PC or other Windows emulator for Mac. Radmin has 30-day trial period, so you won't need to buy it to test is you would be able to run Radmin under Windows emulator for Mac.

If its bot a virus, call symantec and inform them.

We have already done this, but they seem to ignore our requests.

Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Display->Appearance->Effects and disable all effects on the remote (server) computer. This solves issues with transparent tooltips and windows under WinXP.

I mean that the end-user will not notice that someone is monitoring what he/she does

Please note that Remote Administrator is intended for controlling computer systems remotely and not for hidden activities, such as hacking into another peoples' computers or spying other people.

In most countries spying for your employees by any means is illegal, unless contract between employee and employer states the inverse.

but no sign of any option regarding the actions upon receiving a new message.

There's no such option. Tray icon notification for private messages is always enabled and cannot be disabled.

It would be nice to have an option that lets the client window flash/come to focus when a new message/private message is recieved

This feature is already implemented in the latest version of Radmin Communication Client.

Logs in XML

Radmin Server 3.0 and Radmin Communication Server store their logs in HTML format, hope this suites you.

Hardcode all settings (password, tcp port, hide tray, password to lock settings, etc.) into the install so users can simply click install and we do not have to tell them what to do

Setting some kind of default password is a major security threat. A lot of users will carelessly keep default password, which is the same as setting no password at all and thus letting anyone in.

Moreover, all passwords should be unique, so hardcoded password is a very questionable idea.

There are default settings for TCP port (4899 is used by default) and hide tray icon (shown by default, since showing tray icon is more common practice).

Code this in an .ini file that we can alter as needed

This is already possible with Radmin 2.2. Radmin stores its settings in Windows Registry, so you can import/export settings via .REG file.

and use .msi files to push via group policies

This is possible as well. You can include your custom .REG file to the MSI package.

Radmin tray icon will turn from blue to red.

Is there a list of known hardware or software that has compatability issues with Radmin?

No, there's no such list. Most hardware and software may be configured to allow Radmin operations.
