Dial Up 56kbps Pre-paid Internet Access, Can my remote pc will be able to used this kind of connection?

Yes, you can use Radmin with 56kbps connection. Even if you are connected by modem, you can reach a
reasonable speed of about 5-10 screen updates per second. You will need to find out the real IP address your dial-up ISP is to assign to your laptop and connect to that IP address.

"Connect through host" feature, Important missing feature (exists in v2.1)

Quote
It's just ridiculous to remove a feature that works that good. This is actually not a nice to have feature, it's a reason to buy the software and choose it over VNC or anything else.

Don't mix Radmin and RCS.

Radmin Server 3.0 will still have "connect through host" option.

Error Can't start Radmin, Error Can't start Radmin Communication Server

People,

It seems that you just don't get it. Beta versions are provided for testing and bug-hunting purposes.

They are not for production use, and no tech support is provided for any beta versions.

Instead, beta testers are expected to help developers to fix bugs (if any) by posting accurate and competent bug reports (http://www.famatech.com/support/testing.php).

It's assumed that beta versions are only used and tested by expirienced administrators, not by regular users.

Any mac version?, Looking for a version to run on a mac

We are planning to develop Mac version of Remote Administrator, but now we are extremely busy with beta-testing of Radmin 3.0. The development of Mac version was not started yet. However, you can run Radmin under Virtual PC or other Windows emulator for Mac. Radmin has 30-day trial period, so you won't need to buy it to test is you would be able to run Radmin under Windows emulator for Mac.

Advanced IP Scanner, Advanced IP Scanner unable to resolve name

WinXP SP2 enables built-in Internet Connection Firewall without letting you know. Built-in firewall blocks almost all incoming connections. You need to disable built-in firewall or re-configure it to allow incoming connections.

Magic Packet and WOL, Remote Viewer Wakeup

Our Advanced IP Scanner can wake a remote computer on the same LAN. Advanced IP Scanner can be downloaded for free from http://www.famatech.com/radmin/utility/index.php.

Radmin will wake a remote computer only if that remote computer is configured to "Wake on magic packet". Remote computer can be waked only from "suspend" state.

Please note that Wake-on-LAN feature must be supported by the remote PC's motherboard, network card and other hardware. Operating system must be correctly configured as well.

Verification based on MAC ID ?, Does Radmin support verification based on the clent's MAC ID

We don't plan to enhance Radmin to accept MAC addresses.

Sometimes it isn't possible to resolve MAC address or hostname to IP addressk.

Faking the MAC address is easier than faking the IP address.

However, the feature you mentioned is in our Wishes list and may be implemented later.

Eric Carlson!

You are right - Radmin Server 3.0 will support "connect through host".

"Connect through host" feature, Important missing feature (exists in v2.1)

Our developers beleive that including Redirect mode into RCS (and "connect through host" into RCC) will compromise security, since Redirect mode can redirect any type of Radmin traffic (including Full Control), so it would be possible to connect to any Radmin Server inside LAN through RCS.

There are several workarounds for this limitation:

1. Install RCS on a server that does have a real IP address.

2. If this is not a option, you can use port forwarding to forward all traffic on port 4897 from router to the server running RCS

3. If port forwarding is not a option, you can use Radmin Server to forward RCS traffic. In other words, you can connect to RCS through Radmin Server (which does support "connect through host").

Radmin remote session storage.

1. Download a public beta of Radmin Viewer 3.0 here: http://www.radmin.com/radmin/new/.

2. Install Radmin Viewer 3.0b

3. Read "Phonebook management" section in Radmin Viewer 3.0b HELP. It will tell you how to group your connections into folders.

Anti Hacking protection, is there a protection option ?

New features in v2.2:

- Radmin prevents incorrect Server configurations. Radmin Server 2.2 does not allow empty passwords.

- New, fully OS-integrated NT security system with NTLMv2 support. Now permissions for Radmin connections can be set to users from trusted domains and active directories.

- Smart protection from password guessing. This protection includes such features as password anti-guessing security delays, banning IP addresses with excessive number of password guess attempts, etc.

- Server password protection. Radmin Server 2.2 actively protects its settings, which are stored in the system registry. Only a user with administrator rights can access this registry branch.

- Radmin Server 2.2 starts as a service and doesn't start as an application on Windows NT/2000/XP/2003, which improves security.

- Separate installation of Server and Viewer.

- Improved Radmin Server setting interface.

Feature Request, File Transfer Resume

Quote
In any event, using RAdmin Viewer 3.0 beta I have never seen the "Resume" option you reffer to

This is not an option, this is a feature which is always enabled.

Here's an extract from Radmin 2.2 help file:

Radmin has a feature used when copying files that allows updating only a part of the file which is different on both machines. This feature is called "Delta Copy" since only files difference ("delta") is copied. It allows continuing copy operation after network faults from the place where fault occurred and not from the beginning.

This feature is used automatically when any file is being copied to or from the remote machine. For each section of source and destination files, Radmin Server and Radmin Viewer calculate control sum, and this sum (several bytes) is transferred over a network and compared. If sum is equal, this means that corresponding files portions are equal, so no data for this portion is set and next portion of both files are examined. Actual file data will be transferred only for parts that are different; witch allows continuing interrupted copy operation and updating only part of files that are actually different.

it would be nice to be able to resume the download

It's already implemented in Radmin 2.x. If connection was lost during file transfer session, the beginning of the file will be written anyway. Re-connect, try to transfer the same file to the same location once again and select "Overwrite". Only the ending of the file will be transferred.
