either way, for your remoting software...this feature (above) would be HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER!

"Connect through host" option IS available in the current version - Radmin 2.2.

"Callback" option will be available in Radmin 3.0.

I just downloaded the rAdminCS. However, I'm unable to start the server. Any suggestions.

Wait till final version is released. I'm afraid you are not skilled enough to be a proper beta tester.

In any event, using RAdmin Viewer 3.0 beta I have never seen the "Resume" option you reffer to

This is not an option, this is a feature which is always enabled.

Here's an extract from Radmin 2.2 help file:

Radmin has a feature used when copying files that allows updating only a part of the file which is different on both machines. This feature is called "Delta Copy" since only files difference ("delta") is copied. It allows continuing copy operation after network faults from the place where fault occurred and not from the beginning.

This feature is used automatically when any file is being copied to or from the remote machine. For each section of source and destination files, Radmin Server and Radmin Viewer calculate control sum, and this sum (several bytes) is transferred over a network and compared. If sum is equal, this means that corresponding files portions are equal, so no data for this portion is set and next portion of both files are examined. Actual file data will be transferred only for parts that are different; witch allows continuing interrupted copy operation and updating only part of files that are actually different.

When I am transfering a large file

RCS does not have file transfer feature!

Quote
it would be nice to be able to resume the download

It's already implemented in Radmin 2.x. If connection was lost during file transfer session, the beginning of the file will be written anyway. Re-connect, try to transfer the same file to the same location once again and select "Overwrite". Only the ending of the file will be transferred.

Important; we use MSN IM with Exchange, one thing great is that it's a one time setup and the client auto starts on login. So, it would be nice if the user had the ability to autostart and auto join a group.

This is already possible with. Use "Create desktop shortcut" and move the shortcut to Startup folder.

This feature will be improved in the final release.

Quote
File transfer is very nice feature we use in MSNIM. In addition, it would be nice to send a screen shot of the user's current window (that the user chooses...ie an error message) or entire desktop and send it as a picture.

I'm afriad, these features will not be added due to marketing reasons.

What are you talking about sounds more like remote control tool functions, so standard Radmin seems more suitable in this situation.

- automatic login (possibly per command line parameters) to start vc-session during login of client user.

This is already possible with "Create desktop shortcut".

Quote
- use of private channel without request/acknowledge: just to call somebody who is online and maybe on the phone

Well, when calling via phone, the remote person have to confirm that he or she wishes to speak to you by answering a call.

Quote
- when leaving private channel there should be an automatic rejoin of general channel.

Nice improvement, we will take this into account.

Losing this feature would result in us not being able to upgrade - a great disappointment.

RCS is not a replacement for Radmin 3.0, RCS is an another product!

'Connect through' allows just one machine (the 'gateway') to be exposed by port forwarding, so that any number of LAN radmin clients can be reached via the single 'gateway' machine

This is possible with port forwarding as well.

The solution is to configure firewall to forward connections on port 4899 to computer 127.0.0.1, connections on port 4898 to computer 127.0.0.2, connections on port 4897 to computer 127.0.0.3, etc (ports and IP's are only an examples). Now you can run Radmin Viewer outside that NATed LAN and connect to firewall/router using different ports to be forwarded to different Radmin Servers inside LAN.

Let me know if I can be of any other assistance with Famatech products.

Ilia Demenkov

i'd prefer a client to client function

Peer-to-peer method is more suitable for consumer messengers, while for enterprise use client-server technology is preferable.

Quote
And i think that many non-commercial users would prefer this methode

RCS is a commercial software intended mostly for corporate use.

Why not just add functions to an existing product and change the version number from 2 to maybe 2.1?

Latest Radmin version is 2.2. See http://www.famatech.com/download/ for details.

New features in v2.2:

- Radmin prevents incorrect Server configurations. Radmin Server 2.2 does not allow empty passwords.

- New, fully OS-integrated NT security system with NTLMv2 support. Now permissions for Radmin connections can be set to users from trusted domains and active directories.

- Smart protection from password guessing. This protection includes such features as password anti-guessing security delays, banning IP addresses with excessive number of password guess attempts, etc.

- Server password protection. Radmin Server 2.2 actively protects its settings, which are stored in the system registry. Only a user with administrator rights can access this registry branch.

- Radmin Server 2.2 starts as a service and doesn't start as an application on Windows NT/2000/XP/2003, which improves security.

- Separate installation of Server and Viewer.

- Improved Radmin Server setting interface.

Can "Radmin CS 3.0" be completely controled remote computer?

No.

Quote
Radmin Communication Server 3.0 beta can't, why?

RCS is not a replacement for Radmin 3.0, RCS is an another product.

Please read this forum topic: http://www.famatech.com/support/forum/read.php?FID=24&TID=8444

Radmin Server 3.0 will also support Chat and Voice Chat features presented in RCS, but keep in mind that RCS will offer richer commuication capabilities than Radmin Server 3.0, since RCS is a specialized product.

We are planning to port Remote Administrator onto PDA's (Pocket PC/WinMobile and, maybe, Palm OS) in the future, but now we are extremely busy with beta-testing of Radmin 3.0. The development of PDA version was not started yet.

Let me know if I can be of any other assistance with Famatech products.

What is the approximent cost of the communication server and how is it licensed?

RCS (Server) will be paid, while RCC (Client) will be free.

As in most cases the single RCS (and a lot of RCC's) will be needed, it promises to be a very cost-effective solution.

RCS cost is not set yet.

I guess you have to contact Novell technical support team. As we are not developing "novell client" and have no information about its mechanics (or how it affects other software), we are unable to help you with this software. I'd suppose that this has something to do with user authorization.

Let me know if I can be of any other assistance with Famatech products.
