How do I manage operators?

Managing RCS is described in its help file.

Quote
What can an operator do that a normal user wouldn't be able to do?

The operator can moderate the channel by changing a password, giving read-only status to certain users, etc.

I feel entitled to know whether my free upgrade to Server 3 is still likely.

Yes, upgrades from version 2.x to 3.x will be free for registered users.

Radmin Server 3.0 will also support Chat and Voice Chat features presented in Radmin CS, but keep in mind that Radmin CS will offer richer commuication capabilities than Radmin Server 3.0, since Radmin CS is a specialized product.

Can I Possibly change its RADMIN'S security setting from a remote terminal?

Only if you log on remotely as a user who does have rights to change Radmin settings.

Is there some way to load a large list of machines into a properly formatted text file that could then be merged into the registry?

There's no such way now.

with auto join feature to such a room

You can add shortcut to "Rcomclt.exe /connect:YourServer /chat" to Start->Programs->Startup folder to connect to RCS automatically at log on.

Not sure about "auto join to channel", but I'll let our devlopers know...

i thought it was possible to simply connect to a pc on which server is installed. And on that pc a popup dialog showed up with the text message you send (in case of chat)

You can add shortcut to "Rcomclt.exe /connect:localhost /chat" to Start->Programs->Startup folder to be always available for chat.

It's just like adding ICQ client to Startup folder...

I guess we'll add the function to create such shortcuts automatically during post-installation wizard in the final release.

That's not very useful is it?

This is correct.

But don't forget that RCS is intended to be used as corporate online conferencing and meeting tool.

In other words, it's supposed that there are a single Server and 100's of Clients who connect to this server (and not to each other).

I would advice installing and running RCS on an application server or a domain controller.

Certainly, you can still use RCS & RCC on only two computers, but using RCS in an enterprise environment is much more advantageous.

Nothing shows up on the other pc

Make sure RCC is stated on both computers, and RCS is started on one computer only. Connect both RCC copies to the same RCS.

This should be added on the download pinup.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Before you download understand that this beta only does Text Chat and Voice Chat.

Sure, this is already pointed out at http://www.famatech.com/radmin/new/rcs/ and http://www.famatech.com/about/news/news_detail.php?ID=343.

I also strongly recommend to set the port to the orld 4889 for the retail version of RA 3.

It was done intentionally.

If Radmin Communication Server (RComSrv.exe) would use the same port as Radmin Server (r_server.exe), RComSrv.exe would kill running r_server.exe at startup, as RComSrv.exe would try to use a port which is already in use ("bind_socket fails" error would occur).

With different ports, you can use both products on the same computer.

You don't need to change them, you rather should add new port.

Radmin Client

You miss the most important thing: you are using Radmin Communication Client (RCC) and not Radmin Viewer.

Quote
I think it is not good that de client is not backwards compatible.

RCC uses only NEW connection modes (Chat and Voice Chat).

There's no way Radmin 2.x can support Chat or Voice chat connection modes. smile:-)

In fact, you don't have to uninstall neither Radmin 2.x, nor Radmin Viewer 3.0b.

Since Radmin CS and standard Radmin use different default ports, this won't cause any troubles.

Help says to uninstall previous versions of Radmin CS. This will be actual only when next builds of Radmin CS will be released.

I was wondering if a web interface is in the works for radmin

No. There's no web interface for Radmin, since it would be great security hole. Releasing web-based user interface would force endless attacks to your Radmin Server from the Web and, most importantly, web traffic encryption is much poorer than internal Radmin encryption, so passwords can be stolen.

That's why you must download Radmin from our site and install it on your computers in order to use Remote Administrator. Anyway, we are constantly thinking about solution, so it may be developed later.

Does Radmin works on Linux?

No, you cannot run Radmin Server under Linux.

Quote
I prefer to have the "Connect thru host" solution.

Unfortunately, "Connect thru host" is not an option if the intermidiate host is running Linux. You will have to setup port forwarding.
